Equilibrio de Poder : Tom Clancy :
Sent to Madrid to help negotiate between two ethnic factions of the country, Martha Mackell is murdered by an assassin contracted by the very people she had been sent to help. The men who ordered her assassination are then killed on the orders of the Spanish Chief of Staff who is looking to become the next Franco by inciting ethnic riots around the country, especially in his native Castile.
With one of their own killed and a NATO ally tilting between violently separating and a totalitarian regime, Op-Center must do everything in their power with the help of local Interpol officers to contain the situation. Released inBalance of Power uses the tensions in Spain which resonates today given the situation in Catalonia and effectively conveys the tensions in the country.
Like several books before it, Balance of Power is another Op-Center book with an intriguing plot idea but equilibiro once Jeff Rovin writes the characters and narrative to carry it instead of undermining it like the three previous installments.
Aug 14, Jim Bocko rated it it was amazing. I started reading this book over a year ago, then lost interest due to the everyday pressures of life. After reading Breaking Point, I was looking through my books and found Balance of Power and noticed my bookmark. It had been too long, so I started vlancy and this time I really got into this fascinating book.
That being said, I had other motives for wanting to read this book. Balance of Power is about Spain, and I lived in Madrid, Spain from Jan thru Janso I am somewhat familiar with I started reading this book over a year ago, then lost interest due to the everyday pressures of life.
Balance of Power is about Spain, and I lived in Madrid, Spain from Jan thru Janso I am somewhat familiar with the power equilibio at that equilibruo. While Spain was a great place to live, and one of my favorite places I’ve lived, it was also a deadly place for people of power, such as Tomm Military Generals to live.
A few times during those years bombs went off killing Spanish military leaders and police personnel. This is a book of fiction, so these events are fictional, but the underlying story is about the ethnic groups that make up the country we know as Spain. Of course they call it Espana. If you have ever lived in Spain you will probably be interested in this book.
It’s a very good read. Poorly written The author does not have a clue about the Spanish clahcy or culture. On top of it the supposed Castilian General got an Italian surname. The numerous errors could have been avoided by the simple use of Google, a ridiculous book!
I just love this series of books! They still hold true some 20 years later and I enjoy hearing them talk about high tech items like flip phones and dial up computers: May 12, Christopher DuMont rated it really liked it. Good book – very consistent in the Op-Center series – see more characters get developed and nice to see previous stories still playing a role.
Oct 30, Phillip Ball rated it it was amazing. Awesomely written, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Twists and turns all throughout the book.
Suspence at the turn of every page. Sep 14, Juan Navarro rated it did not like it. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. Also very funny is the spanish in the book.
Spanish is a very complex language, with some difficult sounds for the english native speaker, i have only met one american in all my life that what a moronic book, ok the book is about fiction but in this case about science fiction maybe.
Spanish is a very complex language, with some difficult sounds for the english native speaker, i have only met one american in all my life that spoke spanish perfectly and spend 30 years in Venezuela to do so. Jeff, people there carry guns and big ones. This book also has political facts wrong: Catalonians and Basques doesn’t want to rule Spainthe want to have a separate country.
May 26, An Odd1 rated it it was ok. Maybe the attribution poxer Jeff Rovin, in the Goodreads listing, but not my book copy, affects the style.

Another great Tom Clancy adventure. The main hero is this Interpol lady who in Spain works to stop a international crisis. Clancy brings a very office type realistic environment to the novel. Their is a priest and his brother who is related to the crisis. Clancy brings high octane adventure with plenty of descriptive details. This novel like other Clancy novels has a lot of detail to it.
Clancy plays the sympathetic card with the death of an agent in the beginning. He plays with the emotions of Another great Tom Clancy adventure.

He plays with the emotions of an White House worker I believe who doesn’t spend enough time with his family. But with the fate of Spain in peril their is plenty rquilibrio good material to go through! Boston Globe Spain is a nation poised to suffer its worst internal strife in a thousand years.

Spain is on the brink of a possible civil war. It didn’t have the Tom Clancy feel to it. There was a lot of technical jargon about the Op centre procedures, and their toys to try and set that whole we’re good and we have the best toys atmosphere but the whole personal angles ruined it. If you are an operative then you should be all about the mission. Guilt, personal agendas etc Needless to Spain is on the brink of a possible civil war. Needless to say, I didn’t like it.
Not the best out of the series.
